Legal Malpractice

NY Legal Malpractice Attorneys

We must trust the professionals we hire. We seek their special knowledge, skill and experience.

But what happens when your lawyer fails to provide the level of service expected of someone in his or her profession? If this occurs, you may have a claim for legal malpractice.

Todd J. Krouner has decades of experience with the “law of lawyering.” In one case, he obtained the disqualification of a prominent Wall Street law firm for its unprofessional conduct; Papanicolaou v. Chase Manhattan Bank, 720 F. Supp. 1080 (S.D.N.Y. 1989). In another, he retained the expertise of a retired New York Court of Appeals judge to provide an opinion on behalf of his client; D’Jamoos v. Griffith, 2006 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 50757 (E.D.N.Y. 2006). But most instructive was when early in his career, his father’s lawyer switched sides in the midst of a contract dispute and allegedly advised his former partners to commit pension fraud. Krouner v. Koplovitz, 572 A.D.2d 531 (3d Dept. 1991). More important than learning the applicable law, that experience gave Todd J. Krouner invaluable, first-hand insight into the stress and strain clients experience in litigation.

Examples of legal malpractice include:

  • Breach of trust
  • Conflict of interest
  • Allowing the statute of limitations to run without filing suit
  • Excessive charge of fees
  • Failing to protect the client’s claim from inattention or lack of knowledge
  • Improper or inadequate investigation
